Sign-On-Bonus Details

$5,000 (0-1 yr of experience) with 2 year employment commitment

$7,000 (1-2 yr of experience) with 2 year employment commitment

$10,000 (2+ yr of experience) with 2 year employment commitment

* Current UPMC employees are not eligible for sign-on bonus

Purpose:

Functions as a member of the operating room or surgery center nursing team providing direct care to the surgical patient and performs other related duties under the direction of the registered nurse.

Responsibilities:

* Assists in handling of specimens as directed. Assists in application of dressing, casts and in moving of patient as directed. Assists in the clean up of the room, furniture, supplies and equipment after a procedure.
* Assists in workroom in cleaning, storage, packing and autoclaving of instruments.
* Assists surgeon as scrub technician according to prescribed standards. Scrubs and dones gown and gloves in accordance with performance standards.
* Employee complies with established occupation exposure policy.
* Knows where all supplies are kept and is able to get them or put them away accordingly.
* Maintains correct count of sponges, instruments, and needles with circulating nurse and reports correctness or discrepancies according to department policy. Maintains aseptic technique at all times.
* Maintains proper traffic control in the Operating Room Suite. Maintains use and cleanliness of autoclaves by following directions of use and cleaning.
* Observes patient and is ready for emergencies.
* Sets up table, instruments, and supplies according totype of operation. Assists in preparation and draping of patient and operative area according to need. Anticipates need for instruments, sutures, sponges, etc.
* Utilizes hospital policy to meet JCAHO requirements.

Qualifications

Must be a high school graduate or GED. Completion of a surgical technician course. Must maintain CPR certification Must be able to take call as established by written policy that may result in employee working more than 8 hours in one day.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

* Act 31 Clearance
* Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
* Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
* Act 73 FBI Clearance
* Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
