Job Description

The Family Nurse Practitioner at SSTAR's Health Center provides primary health care, education and clinical functions consistent with the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty according to the regulations as indicated on Scope of Practice signed by the Medical Director.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Provide primary and acute health care to individuals in all cycles of life who present at the FHCC.
  2. Participate in detox rounds as needed at the Fall River SSTAR detox site.
  3. Document clinic visits and all telephone or verbal contacts in patient s charts.
  4. Reviews initial and follow-up of labs and diagnostic tests.
  5. Participate in the training of students assigned to the Health Center.
  6. Provide health care based on clinical protocols, which have been reviewed and approved annually by the Medical Director.
  7. Meets every three months with the Medical Director and reviews ten random charts in which medication was prescribed. An ongoing list is to be maintained by the FNP. Completion of this review will be filed with the Assistant Clinic Manager.
  8. Consult and refer to Health Center doctors and other doctors as needed in order to provide optimal care.
  9. Attend conferences and trainings as approved by the Clinic Manager that reflects clinic practice.
  10. Provide urgent and primary health care during Adolescent Clinic hours when assigned.
  11. Participate in Quality Improvement activities
  12. Document in accordance with agency policy, meeting Meaningful Use requirements.
  13. Other duties as required.
  14. National Health Service corps Loan Repayment consideration.


  1. Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts.
  2. National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  3. Massachusetts s licensure to practice in the expanded nursing role.
  4. Possess or obtain prescription privileges in Massachusetts.
  5. Certified in Basic Life Support (CPR)
  6. Two years continuous sobriety is required for individuals in recovery.
