South Shore Hospital's Level II trauma Center is one of only two licensed to a community hospital in Massachusetts. We are looking for a Trauma Surgeon to join our team.

Basic Purpose

Responsible for performing emergency surgeries on patients suffering from acute injuries and illnesses. Review patient s history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Trauma surgeon will provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. Provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations.

Essential Functions

Physician shall perform the following duties as Trauma Surgeon:

Examining patients, making initial assessments, and questioning patients and family members on complaints, symptoms, and medical history.

Conducting diagnostic tests and determining which instruments and methods of surgery would be most successful.

Performing operations on critical, often multiple, injuries to different organ systems. Using a variety of medical tools, such as surgical clamps, lasers, and medical software.

Working with other specialized Surgeons to stabilize patients in critical condition.

Coordinating Nurses, Assistants, Anesthesiologists, specialists, and other medical staff required for surgery.

Providing in-service training on new surgical technology.

Remaining up-to-date on surgical techniques by reading medical journals and attending medical conferences.

Assist with Performance Improvement activities within the department.

Supports the Hospital s mission, policies and procedures through attendance and participation at committee meetings.


Medical degree, licensed in Massachusetts and the successful completion of a residency and fellowship in Trauma and Critical Care.

Certified by American Board of Surgery with specialty in surgical critical care

Minimum Experience

Meets requirements of South Shore Health medical staff bylaws

Credentialed by SSH medical staff
